Elena Bellodi

Educational Background

In September 2004 Elena Bellodi enrolled in the Computer Science and Industrial Automation Engineering course at the University of Ferrara.

She received her Bachelor’s degree with a score of 110 /110 cum laude in Computer Science and Automation Engineering at the University of Ferrara in October 2007, with the thesis “Automatic procedures for the remote tracking of wild fauna on Windows CE”.

She received her Master’s degree, with a score of 110 /110 cum laude and a letter of commendation by the graduation commission, in Computer Science Engineering at the University of Ferrara in October 2009, with the thesis "Application of Process Mining Tools", under the supervision of Professors E. Lamma e F. Riguzzi.

In October 2009 she won the competition for admission to the Ph.D. program in Engineering Sciences (XXV Cycle) at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara, working in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Group under the supervision of Professors Fabrizio Riguzzi and Evelina Lamma. On 26 March 2013 she received the title of Ph.D. with the thesis entitled “Integration of Logic and Probability in Terminological and Inductive Reasoning”.

 

During the Ph.D. (2010-2012):

  • She received the “Cambridge ESOL First Certificate in English” (FCE, B2 European level) by University of Cambridge, at Inlingua School Ferrara in 2010;
  • She attended the “ISCL 2011” School: Third International ALP/GULP Spring School on Computational Logic” organized by the ALP (Association for Logic Programming) e GULP (Gruppo Ricercatori e Utenti Logic Programming) associations, in Bertinoro (FC, Italy);
  • She attended the “MLSS 2012” School: the 19th Machine Learning Summer School in La Palma (Spain).

 

Positions

In March 2013 she won a 4-month scholarship (March 1st – June 30th) entitled “Rule sistems for appropriateness of laboratory examinations” at the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria (AOU) of Ferrara (supervisors Prof. E. Lamma and Dr. M. Gallerani), within the project “Decision Support System to improve appropriateness of repeated execution of laboratory examinations”.

In July 2013 she won the competition for the annual research grant "Artificial Intelligence techniques  for the automatic analysis of the appropriateness of laboratory examinations” at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara. This post-doctoral research position was renewed until June 30th 2015.

 

Awards

Elena Bellodi’s  research activity received several national and international recognitions:

  • The Ph.D. thesis won the 2013 “Marco Cadoli” Award sponsored by the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA) for the best Ph.D. thesis in the field of AI discussed from January 2012 until May 2013;
  • The Ph.D. thesis won the 2014 Award sponsored by the Italian Association "Gruppo Ricercatori e Utenti di Logic Programming" (GULP) for the best Ph.D. thesis in the field of Computational Logic discussed from December 2011 until May 2014;
  • The article entitled Probabilistic Declarative Process Mining by Elena Bellodi, Fabrizio Riguzzi and Evelina Lamma won an Highly Commended Paper Award at the 4th International Conference on Knowledge Science, Engineering & Management (KSEM 2010);
  • The article entitled BUNDLE: A Reasoner for Probabilistic Ontologies by Riccardo Zese, Fabrizio Riguzzi, Evelina Lamma and Elena Bellodi won the Best Paper Award at the 7th International Conference on Web Reasoning and Rule Systems (RR 2013).

 

Teaching activity at the Engineering Department of University of Ferrara

She was Tutor for the Fundamentals of Computer Science – A (2011/2012 and 2012/2013 academic years) and Fundamentals of Computer Science – B (2011/2012 academic year) classes for the Computer Science and Industrial Automation Engineering Course.

The tutoring for the Fundamentals of Computer Science – A class (2011/2012 a.y.) was the first in the ranking of the average student scores regarding all laboratory activities of the Course classes.

 

She was Teaching Assistant for the Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence I class (“Prolog Laboratory”) of the Computer Science and Industrial Automation Engineering Course (Master’s degree) for the 2014/2015 academic year.

 

Teaching activity at the Mathematics and Computer Science Department of University of Ferrara

She was Teaching Assistant for the Programming Languages and Laboratory class of the Computer Science Course (Bachelor’s degree) for the 2014/2015 academic year.

 

Participation to Research Projects

  • She took part in the FAR Projects (ex-60%), at the Engineering Department, University of Ferrara, in 2010-2015;
  • She took part in the European Project “Engineering the POlicy-making LIfe Cycle” (ePolicy)  in 1/10/2011-1/10/2014 under the FP7-ICT-2001-7 call (project code: 288147; web site: http://epolicy-project.eu/node). Coordinator: Prof. Michela Milano, Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Bologna;
  • She took part in the Project “Decision Support System to improve appropriateness of repeated execution of laboratory examinations” (November 2012 - November 2015), financed by the Italian Ministry of Health under the “Ricerca Finalizzata 2010” call  (project code: RF-2010-2310570). Coordinator: Dr. Massimo Gallerani, Director of the Department of  Internal Medicine of the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria of Ferrara.

She is serving  as co-Chair of the AI*IA 2015 Doctoral Consortium, a workshop for Ph.D. students which will take place during the 14th Conference of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA 2015).
