The research activities are developed both with public financing and in cooperation with private enterprises.

As regards public financing, in the last two years the Department has participated to eight MIUR PRIN projects, to two "Industria 2015" projects and six European projects in the scope of FP7. The total public funding for the research projects carried out in 2014 is over 1,6M€.

The Department has many collaborations and research contracts with private enterprises and they represent one of main activity of the Department for over 1,4M€ research contracts in 2013-2014. This activity has often a high scientific relevance or regards situations in which the usual design rules do not provide adequate results. The tests that use the Department equipment fall in this scope.
